It appears Douglas Adams was right on the money.
According to this article, the weight of life, the universe, and everything (well, almost) is 3x10^42. That's the number three with 42 zeros after it.

Fortunately for us the Vogon destructor fleet must've fallen asleep on their way to obliterate the earth for the new hyperspace bypass. Whew.
